April 5, 2023: Zurich-based ophthalmic surgeon and researcher, Professor Farhad Hafezi, has become the only actively practicing Swiss surgeon to be recognized five times by his peers on the biennial list of the 100 most influential individuals in international ophthalmology. Prof. Hafezi is being honored for his significant contributions to laser eye surgery and as a pioneer in corneal cross-linking technology.
Prof. Farhad Hafezi has been named to The Ophthalmologist's PowerList for the fifth time. This prestigious list celebrates the 100 most globally influential and innovative individuals in the field of ophthalmology. Prof. Hafezi was previously recognized on the Power List in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020.
As the only practicing Swiss ophthalmologist to have been named to the Power List five times, Prof. Hafezi's extraordinary achievements have left a lasting impact on the field. His extensive and pioneering work encompasses the development of novel cross-linking techniques for the treatment of keratoconus and corneal ulcers, as well as the advancement of innovative applications of excimer laser technology in refractive laser surgery.
Raised in Fribourg/FR and residing in Baar/ZG, Prof. Hafezi is the co-founder and medical director of the ELZA Institute in Dietikon. He also leads a research laboratory at the CABMM of the University of Zurich. Prof. Hafezi holds the title of Titular Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, Associate Professor at the University of Southern California Los Angeles, USA, and Visiting Professor at Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, China. He is also the co-founder of the Light for Sight Foundation, an organization dedicated to preventing avoidable blindness in children and adolescents by promoting keratoconus screening and treatment.
