The Bode Group develops novel chemical reactions for the synthesis of organic molecules under physiological conditions. Unlike traditional organic chemistry, which often requires organic solvents, inert atmosphere, and toxic reagents, the methods developed by the Bode Group operate in water and in the presence of biological material including proteins, cells, and tissues. These reactions can therefore be used to label materials selectivity or prepare polymers in the presence of living cells. The application of such reactions is numerous but include wound healing, drug delivery, cellular encapsulation, and artificial tissues.
